4tablespoons unsalted cultured butter, cut into small cubes
2tablespoonsbrown sugar
½teaspooncinnamon
½cupchopped pecans
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350° F.
Butter 9"x9" baking pan.
Prepare filling
Combine lemon zest and juice, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt in large mixing bowl.
Peel apples. Cut peeled apples in half and remove cores, stems, and remaining peel.
Cut apples halves in half again, then cut into slices approx. 3/8" thick.
Add apples to sugar mix and toss to coat.
Prepare topping
Place flour, oats or granola, butter, sugar, and cinnamon in medium mixing bowl.
Rub mixture together with fingertips to blend, breaking up clumps of brown sugar and flattening and coating pieces of butter. Continue rubbing and flattening until mixture is well combined.
Stir in chopped nuts.
Assemple crisp
Scrape apple mix into baking pan.
Cover with topping.
Bake
Bake crisp approx. 60 minutes, until apples are tender, filling is bubbling, and topping has browned.
